Heartworm and Flea/Tick Preventatives Available at Vaccination Clinics

At our twice-monthly low-cost vaccination clinics, we sell heartworm preventatives and flea/tick medications.  Our prices are very competitive, it's convenient to pick up your meds at the clinic, and proceeds help to support and care for the animals we rescue.  Read here about the importance of heartworm testing and prevention in Georgia.

  • Puppies under 6 months of age can be started on heartworm preventative without a heartworm test.  We do not test under 6 months of age because it takes at least 6 months for heartworms to be detected.
  • Dogs 6 months of age and over MUST be tested before heartworm preventative is sold.
  • We will only sell heartworm medication for your dog after our veterinarian performs a heartworm test, or when you bring in paperwork from your veterinarian documenting a recent negative heartworm test result, because this is the only way we can verify that the results are negative and and that the dog does not need heartworm treatment instead of a preventative.
  • If the test result is negative, you can purchase a 6-month supply or a 12-month supply of the preventative.
  • If you purchase a 6-montth supply, you can get a 6-month refill if you bring the paperwork showing a negative test result back within 6 months of the test date.  We DO NOT retain records of test results, so you must keep the paperwork and bring it with you in order to purchase a refill.
  • Cats are not required to be tested in order to receive heartworm preventative, and we do not offer a heartworm test for cats.  If you want to have your cat tested, please see your veterinarian,
