Operations Manager

The Georgia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, a not-for-profit animal shelter located in Suwanee, GA, seeks a Shelter Operations Manager.  Responsibilities include:   hands-on supervision of daily shelter operations, management of shelter staff and volunteers, animal health and welfare control, business operations, facility care, and customer service.  Must have strong communication, customer service, staff management experience, and the ability to multi-tasker.   Good computer skills are necessary, and some knowledge of bookkeeping and general office management is needed.  The ability to work flexible hours is a must.  Reports to the Executive Director.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Staff Management:

    • Recruits, hires & trains all kennel, lobby & isolation staff

    • Communicates job expectations, coaches and takes disciplinary action when necessary

    • Delegates work to staff, managing workload and output.

    • Manages all scheduling, ensuring adequate staffing & coverage of absences

    • Handles staff performance appraisals & internal needs.

    • Organizes and chairs staff meetings.

    • Onboards all new hires

       

  • Business Operations:

    • Reviews & approves bills for payment, checks with ED with any concerns

    • Manages and monitors the purchase of kennel, lobby, and veterinary supplies.

    • Keeps Amazon Wish List up to date to minimize supplies spending

    • Completes payroll on a bi-weekly basis, managing time clock.

    • Checks mail & deposits all donor checks

    • Completes monthly adoption reports for Shelter Animals Count

    • Submits the Pet of the Week for the Gwinnett Daily Post (and any additional media)

       

  • Facility Care:

    • Schedules/oversee repairs and maintenance as needed.

    • Maintain cleanliness and organization of Bark Shop

    • Spearheads vaccination clinic set up & flow

    • Assists with internet, computer & general issues around buildings

       

  • Customer Service:  Ensures all volunteers, donors, adopters, and visitors are greeted promptly, treated courteously, and assisted throughout the adoption search and selection process.  Steps in and smooths over conflicts. 

  • Support: Coordinates various departments so different teams know about offsites, animals medical progress, where animals are currently, etc to keep communication lines open & staff is knowledgeable in front of public. 

  • Animal Health and Welfare:  Ensures adherence to policies and procedures that protect and promote the health and well-being of animals in our care including:  disease control, sanitation, nutrition, exercise and other appropriate animal husbandry practices.
